Pick On Us
Q: We’ve heard you mention that Pick On Us has a laser. Can you share more about that? Each time you mention “THE LASER” we think of Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies, holding his hairless cat.
A: We’re sorry we conjured up images of Dr. Evil and Mr. Bigglesworth…What would you like to know?
Q: When did you get it?
A: We installed our first laser in 2015.
Q: How does it work?
A: It works similar to a desktop printer. Blank picks are arranged onto a flat holding tray. The laser beam moves over them and burns the image into the surface of the bamboo or wooden pick.
Q: How long does that process take?
A: It takes about an hour to setup each job, and about 16-22 seconds to burn each pick. It varies a little depending on the complexity of the art design.
Q: How did all this come about?
A: We had many chefs asking us for custom branded picks and needing to see and hold a live sample for concept development. With most of our manufacturing being done overseas, this really wasn't possible. So we made the investment in a “LASER” to satisfy these requests.
Q: Where did you get it?
A: Right here in the USA. Our picks are customized in California using an American Made laser! We are proud of that.
Q: So can we see it?
A: Yes, here are some pictures and a video clip.
